Sarah Treks a Great Wall Of Hope for the Blind

Local Dispensing Optician Sarah Payne is looking for support in her endeavours this Summer to raise funds for the Royal national Institute for The Blind. She is selling donated items at car boot sales, running a quiz through her office, and is looking for sponsors when she treks the Great Wall of China in the Autumn.

Sarah, who is paying for the trip herself, says: “I was browsing the RNIB website and was inspired to do something different to help the charity. It will be the experience of a lifetime, and I’m even enjoying the training! I’ve raised about £600 so far, and my ultimate target is £2000. ”

A team of 73 people, from all ages and backgrounds, will be making the trip to China in October this year. They will be trekking for 4-8 hours a day depending on the terrain, for the duration of the 10 day adventure. Sarah has embarked on a weekly routine of swimming, hiking and circuit training to help build her stamina.

Sarah, who works for Davis Opticians in Kettering, has long been interesting in good causes, especially those connected with eye health issues. “Working with patients and helping them with their eye care made me want to go a step further in promoting healthy eye sight.”
