Aiden Smith

Aiden Smith

Aiden qualified at Aston University in July 2016, having worked for us all through his degree course.

He said that he loves the fact that every day in optics is so varied; "each patient has different needs and that keeps it interesting. I particularly enjoy making a difference to people’s everyday lives by solving their eye-care problems"

We asked Aiden which sphere of optics interests him the most - "At the moment I do not consider myself to have a 'specialty'. I intend to keep my options open for as long as possible, however, I will be very interested in focussing on health aspects of Optometry. Perhaps I will become an independent prescriber. I also enjoy Behavioural Optometry, such as visual stress assessments."

Outside work Aiden used to play national level table tennis, and he intends to try and get back up to standard as soon as possible. His parents have been incredibly supportive throughout his training, and he has an older sister who is also an Optometrist, but she does not live locally. He says he also has an amazing girlfriend who has had more eye-tests in the last 4 years (while he was training) than most people will ever have!

On his career to date Aiden said, "I did my work experience at Davis Opticians in about 2012/13. A few years later I started as a Saturday boy. Now, 4 years later, I’m qualified as an Optometrist. I am extremely happy to be working for such a supportive company."

Quick and friendly service, very thorough.
