Metal Frames
There are many different types of metal material, and our Dispensing team will be happy to talk through the options with you. Most metal frames are made of different alloys, and the type of metal used affects the weight, durability, and look of the frame. Metal can be thin and barely-there, or chunky and bold. Many metal frames are fairly unisex, although some feature strong detail such as jewellery like filigree or engraving that marks them out as very obviously masculine or feminine.
Metal is strong, lightweight, and easy to adjust. The nose pads on the bridge can be fully adjusted to fit every contour of your bridge, and if you bend a metal frame it will usually go back into shape after adjustment. It can however provoke a skin reaction if you have sensitivity to metals. If this is a problem ask for Stainless Steel or Titanium materials.
For women, traditional metals are larger and feature subtle detail such as engraving or inlaid colours on the side arms or trims. Colours are usually gold, silver or lilac tones. Funky metals are smaller and shallow, with hot colours and cool detail. Bold blocks of red, purple and pink are everywhere this year. Rims can be chunky, shiny, or very matt.
For men, traditional metal shapes have a double bar across the bridge, and thin rims and sides. Trendy models have thick metal or plastic sides, with detail in subtle colours. Colours are much more subtle when applied to metal, for men there are burnished and matt finishes in shades of gunmetal, bronze, black or silver.
