We are very excited to announce the arrival of an amazing new diagnostic instrument for your eyes at our KETTERING practice - the Topcon 3D OCT (Ocular Coherence Tomography).
This has replaced our Digital Retinal Imaging camera as it does everything that it did, but also takes 3 Dimensional images too!! Olney, Rothwell & Thrapston will continue with their state of the art DRIs.
The health of your eyes matters to you. It matters to us too, which is why we have invested so heavily in this instrument for you.
Your eyes can now be examined in previously unimaginable detail, as we can actually see below the surface!
Hopefully you have previously had photographs done of the back of your eyes - the retina. The OCT will take a (more detailed) photograph in the same way, but does a 3D, cross-sectional scan of the retina in one sitting. It is non-invasive, painless and quick! The images are stored for future reference, and compared to your next scan to monitor the health of your eyes.
We can diagnose and monitor conditions including vitreous detachments, glaucoma, diabetes, macular holes, age related macular degeneration (ARMD) and much more. The danger with some conditions, such as detachment, is that the condition is painless and initially vision is normal, while damage is actually occurring at the back of the eye. With diseases like ARMD we can identify the type and monitor progress of treatment.
As one of the first practices in the country to benefit from this new technology, we are pleased to be able to offer the highest standards of care to our patients. Prevention is always better than cure, and early detection and treatment of disease might save your sight.
