EYE CARE SERVICES

An eye examination follows a set routine laid out by our governing bodies. Our Optometrists will tailor this to suit your eye health needs.

They'll enquire about your general health, eye problems in your family, and lifestyle. The following are the test's basic sections

Redefining the

Way We See

The refraction section of the test assesses your sight, and tells us if you need any visual correction in the form of glasses or contact lenses. Some people worry that they give the wrong answers, but the Optometrist checks and checks again to get an accurate result. They also use Retinoscopy (see below) so don't ever worry that you've got it wrong!

We use a piece of equipment called a Phoropter or Refractor head, which places lenses in front of your eyes, plus a chart to find out how well you can see. It tells us whether your sight has changed since last time, and we check your standard of vision with and without correction lenses.

Each eye is checked separately, then both of them together. We will continue to examine your eyesight with various strength lenses until we are satisfied that it is of the greatest possible standard for you.

We check your vision for distance when driving, watching TV, or walking about. For intermediate we'll check your vision at computer screens and for larger print that extends beyond arms length. Lastly we check close activities such as reading, stitching, and paying attention to little details. Your optometrist will examine the strength of your current glasses and talk to you about what you do and when you require assistance, as this has an impact on the lenses we may prescribe.

Specialised Services

Retinoscope

REFRACTIVE ERROR

An equipment called a Retinoscope is used by the optometrist to double-check the prescription you require. This is a portable device that bounces light off the retina and back to the user. The gadget has lenses within that focus the laser beam, allowing us to assess your prescription very precisely. It is especially useful for assessing children or patients who are unable to communicate because it does not demand a response from the patient.

Ophthalmoscopy

RETINA, OPTIC NERVE & BLOOD VESSELS

The Ophthalmoscope, a hand-held equipment, is used for this.
It is used by an optometrist to conduct a thorough examination of the interior tissues of your eye, including the retina, optic nerve, and blood vessels. This is done in conjunction with Retinal Imaging or Scanning in order to confirm eye health and to follow up on any abnormalities indicated by the scan picture. During this section of the test, diseases like diabetes, macular degeneration, and excessive blood pressure might be detected. For this stage of the test, your Optometrist must turn out the lights in order to see clearly into your eyes. You'll see a bright light shining into your eye and be instructed to stare in various directions.

Pupil Reflex

PHOTOPUPILLARY REFLEX

The black circle in the centre of the coloured area of your eye is your pupil. Your pupils enlarge or contract in response to changes in light and other stimuli. We examine your pupil response to light to ensure that it is healthy and typical. Abnormal pupil reflexes can be a symptom of neurological disease, but this is thankfully a very rare occurrence.

Muscle Balance

RETINA, OPTIC NERVE & BLOOD VESSELS

Muscles control the movement of each of your eyeballs, and both eyes' muscles must operate together. You may get double vision or eye strain if they don't operate together. This is a short exam in which you must judge the alignment of red lines against a light or a chart with the letters OXO written on it.

Please inform reception or your optometrist if you have any concerns or questions regarding any aspect of your eye examination.
